Sweater Present

i have challenged myself to create some sort of gifts for each family birthday this year. I don’t know how difficult this is going to be come December. There are a lot of male birthdays that month. Anyway. This will likely have been my biggest challenge.

i have to make the perfect bag for my Sweater.

Obviously it has to be right. It has to have cats. And it should play to our personality. She has a tendency to choose country when I know there is rock and roll in her soul. I decided to play it a little safe and go English. She likes English stuff too. British murder mysteries most of all. What better than some cats in bow ties?

And manacles, with mustaches.

And monocles, with mustaches.

the damn fabric is discontinued, but I found a source on Etsy, thank god.  Coordinating was easy, just needed a small red polka dot fabric and some scraps for the inside pockets.

The pattern was from Emmaline Bags. It’s the free retreat bag pattern and it was so well written! DH’s dice bag was supposed to have the zipper grips on the outside like this does, but the pattern was hard to understand, and I was unable to figure that part out. I didn’t put the frame in it, because I wanted to ensure the bag would open really wide.

I created the appliqué design and the name in Embrillence, and it stitched well, with a couple of places the design was very dense and my machine struggled just a touch. All in all pretty good stitching that laid flat after ironing.

Here are final pics.
